When fans debate which club has won the most trophies, the answer depends on how we count domestic, continental, and worldwide honours. Rankings are based on IFFHS counts and include only official national and international tournaments.
Al Ahly (Egypt) – Africa’s most successful club with 129 titles
Time after time, Al Ahly have dominated Egyptian and African football, amassing over 129 trophies. The club was founded in 1907 and since then have managed to win 45 Egyptian Premier Leagues while also collecting 12 Champions League titles as of November 2025.
The so-called “domestic dominance” period was the most successful period for the club between 1940-1960. This era can be characterized by their absolute supremacy, winning the title nine consecutive times. Afterwards, in the 2000s, Al Ahly got internationally recognized by being voted by CAF as the African Club of the 20th Century and securing three bronze medals at the FIFA Club World Cup during this time.
Celtic FC (Scotland) – 120 Titles
Celtic are the most decorated team in Scotland, having 120 trophies to their account. Most notably, they have won 55 League awards.
Celtic’s golden era is widely regarded as the period between 1965 and 1974, under the management of Jock Stein. During this time, the team won the European Cup and claimed nine consecutive Scottish league titles. The era is most famously associated with the “Lisbon Lions,” who made history as the first British team to win the European Cup, while also achieving significant domestic success.
Rangers FC (Scotland) – Record domestic dominance with 118 trophies
In Scottish football, Rangers are iconic. As of November 2025, they have 55 Scottish League Championships, 34 Scottish Cups, and 28 League Cups. They have won the European Cup Winners’ Cup once in 1972.
Under Walter Smith, Rangers enjoyed a great period in the 1990s. During his first stint, they won seven league titles. Smith also guided the Ibrox club to three Scottish Cups and three League Cups, including a domestic treble in 1992-93.
Due to financial problems, Rangers were relegated to the Third Division of the Scottish Football League in 2012. However, the club made a comeback, and with Steven Gerrard as a head coach, they won the domestic title in 2020/21.
Real Madrid (Spain) – European powerhouse and continental record-holder
When you ask which club has the highest number of trophies, Real Madrid lead the conversation. They’ve collected at least 105 titles as of November 2025, including 15 Champions Leagues, 36 top-flight awards and 20 Copa del Reys.
Real Madrid’s successful history starts in the 1950s. During this period, the club won five European Cups (now Champions League), where Alfredo Di Stefano was the best player on the team.
Then followed the “Galacticos” (late 1990s/early 2000s), with Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and David Beckham joining Los Blancos. During 2014-2024, they have won six Champions Leagues, including three consecutive ones (2016-2018) under Zinedine Zidane’s leadership.

Liverpool are slightly behind, having 52 major titles. The cabinet features 20 League titles as well as six Champions Leagues. Their golden era was in the 1970s and 1980s, when coaches such as Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, and Kenny Dalglish prevailed. Later in the 2010’s it was Jurgen Klopp who played a pivotal part in the club’s resurgence.

What Counts as a Trophy in Football Rankings?
When we talk about the teams with the most trophies, it’s necessary to first define what counts as a title in football rankings. Here is a criteria list:
- Domestic titles.
- Continental titles.
- FIFA Club World Cup.
Domestic Titles
We start with domestic titles. Here we consider league championships in England, Spain, Italy or France, such as the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, or Ligue 1, which measure consistency across an entire season.
The national cups include the FA Cup, Copa del Rey and DFB Pokal. Many countries, such as Spain and Germany, also host super cups, often contested between league and cup winners.
Continental Competitions
Continental contests are among the most valuable and prestigious trophies a club can win. In Europe, this includes the UEFA Champions League, which represents the pinnacle of club football, while the Europa League and Conference League are the second and third best tournaments.
South America’s CONMEBOL Libertadores holds a similar status. Africa’s CAF and Asia’s AFC Champions Leagues are also on the list.
International Club Trophies
At the global level, the FIFA Club World Cup is counted. We should also point out that defunct contests such as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup are excluded.

| 6 | Real Madrid | Spain | 105 |
| 7 | CA Peñarol | Uruguay | 102 |
| 8 | Barcelona | Spain | 100 |
- Some sources: count all official league, cup and continental contests, others exclude some regional or minor cups. For example, the list led by IFFHS says “only significant official tournaments of national (N) and international (I) area are considered.”
- Domestic cups: in some countries are counted differently (e.g., Super Cups, League Cups, etc.).
- Other sources: may exclude friendly/invitational championships. Others might include them.
Future Contenders Closing the Gap
While the clubs such as Real Madrid, Bayern and Al Ahly still dominate the list of clubs with the most trophies in the world, several powerhouses are quickly narrowing the gap.
We can note Manchester City, whose meteoric rise under Pep Guardiola has transformed the club into a potential top-ten entrant by 2030. As of November 2025, he has won 18 trophies with the Cityzens, including a long-awaited Champions League triumph in 2023, which was a part of the continental treble.
Elsewhere, PSG (56), Chelsea (35), and Flamengo (59) are building strong legacies of their own. It also depends on how consistent these sides will remain, as the balance of power changes frequently in world football.
